The Rockland Boulders announced today the signings of former Major League pitcher CJ Riefenhauser, as well as RHP Tommy Lawrence and INF/OF Cody Regis.
Riefenhauser, 27, is a former Major League pitcher, most recently with the Tampa Bay Rays. In 24 career MLB games, the left-handed pitcher went 1-0, with a 6.30 ERA. The Mahopac, NY native made his MLB debut on April 19th, 2014 against the New York Yankees, pitching 1 1/3 innings of perfect baseball. His last appearance came on October 3rd, 2015 against the Blue Jays, where the left-hander threw an inning, allowing no hits, and striking out one. He’s scheduled to make his Boulders debut on Saturday in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
“It’s always a welcomed addition to have a local player, but even better to get one with Major League experience,” stated team President Ken Lehner. “C.J. is a young, strong pitcher who has competed at the highest level and having the opportunity to observe his talent will be rewarding for Boulders fans.”
Lawrence, 26, will also be making his debut for the Boulders in 2017. A native of West Haven, CT, Lawrence played baseball in college for University of Maine at Orono (Orono, ME). His best season came in 2013, when the right-handed pitcher went 11-3 with a 2.32 ERA, 78 K’s, in 104.2 innings. His performance earned him the America East Conference Pitcher of the Year Award. He then went on to play for the Gulf Coast League Rays in 2014, before becoming part of the River City Bandits of the Frontier League in 2015.
Cody Regis, 25, is a native of Tuczon, Arizona and a former infielder/outfielder in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, spending time with the single A affiliate Visalia Rawhide and double A affiliate Mobile BayBears. The utility man is a career .276 hitter, with 229 hits, 2 home runs, and 94 RBI’s, in 237 career games.
Riefenhauser, Lawrence, Regis, and the rest of the Boulders will begin their seventh season with a #BouldOpening tomorrow night, May 18th when they host the Sussex County Miners at 7:00pm at Palisades Credit Union Park.
